It is said that at the time of Samudramanthana Lord Vishnu got the Pot of Amrita and all Devas(Gods) decided to distribute it in such manner that the Asuras/Rakshasa (Demons) can not drink it. The thieves Asuras/ Rakshasa wanted to become immortal so that they can rule the Devas (Gods) and also all universe by drinking it. So that to hide Amrita pot Devas decided to go on earth at Newasa. But as the thieves Asuras/Rakshasa are so clever they got informed about god’s secret . And to have Amrita they disguised themselves as a god and came to nevasa-tour-from-pune.
One of them named Bhasmasura snatched the Pot of Amrita and ran away. All gods now got afraid. To bring that pot back Lord Vishnu incarnated as a MOHINI i.e,Bewitching Female. And by fascinating bhasmasura Mohini brought that pot back to god’s. This Avatar of vishnu is Ardh-Nari-Neteshwar so the temple is known as Mohiniraj .
This temple is so antique and it is the only one temple of mohiniraj located at Nevasa. The height of this temple is 75 feet tall.
Also in Nevasa the Famous Dnyaneshwar temple is there. As saint-poet Shri. Dnyaneshwar wrote holy scripture named Dnyaneshwari, besides a pole. The pole is still there .Every year during Ashadhi Ekadashi the palakhi of saint Dnyaneshwar goes there.
Another Datta Temple at Devgad near Nevasa Phata, just Distant 10 kms from Nevasa Phata and 181 kms from Pune. Near the temple the Pravara River so its a best holy place and also best picnic spot. Boating facility is available there.
Apart from this places Shani Shinganapur i.e shani temple also in Nevasa taluka.
