The divine hills of Tirumala were filled with the fragrance of devotion and flowers yesterday, as the annual Pushpa Yagam (Floral Festival) was celebrated with grandeur at the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple.
Thousands of devotees witnessed this sacred ritual, where tons of colorful flowers were used to offer floral homage to Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy. The entire sanctum and temple premises turned into a vibrant sea of petals, symbolizing purity, gratitude, and divine beauty.
Pushpa Yagam, also known as the Floral Bath Ceremony, is one of the most enchanting rituals performed at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) temple.
This unique festival is held once every year, usually in October or November, after the grand Brahmotsavam celebrations.
The ritual involves offering a variety of fresh flowers — roses, jasmine, marigold, chrysanthemum, lotus, and lilies — to Lord Venkateswara.
Priests perform special pujas while chanting Vedic hymns as flowers are gently poured over the deity in an elaborate floral abhishekam (bathing ritual).
It is believed that Pushpa Yagam helps ward off environmental impurities, symbolizes cleansing of the soul, and brings prosperity and happiness to devotees.
Over 7 to 10 tons of flowers were used during the ritual.
Flowers were sourced from different parts of India, including Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh.
The entire Ananda Nilayam (sanctum area) was beautifully decorated with floral garlands and intricate designs.
Thousands of pilgrims participated, witnessing this breathtaking event filled with divine energy and fragrance.
